History
The Offord Players is a relatively young amateur dramatic group, a mere 23 years young. It grew from lively productions by the local youth club, with a handful of enthusiasts wanting to make the most of our community talents and facilities.
Our regular haunt is the Offord Village Hall but there are other venues within the villages of Offord Cluny and Offord Darcy and in neighbouring villages, that have provided us with fantastic backdrops to a whole variety of productions.
Our first scripted production in 1996 was the epitome of farces, ‘See how they run’ by Phillip King; we generally stage two productions a year and, although farce has regularly featured in our repertoire, (we are good at making people laugh), we have had great success with a whole variety of genres, including several children’s stories- Toad, fantastic Mr Fox, Pied Piper; radio performances of The 39 Steps, staged in a local pub; classics – When we are married, and occasionally Pantomimes and musical extravaganza.
Our membership is made up of local Offordians and people from surrounding towns and villages. It is known to be a popular, talented group where people are made to feel welcome and can be sure of feeling proud with the end result. We often push the boundaries, none more so than when we move ourselves into the local redundant church of St Peter’s. This has staged the children’s stories and the ever popular classic Christmas story of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens. We pull on all the resources and talents of our membership, on and off the boards, to convert the building into the dark, Dickensian passages and Scrooge’s troubled haunts. The experience for everyone, both sides of the ‘curtain’ has been memorable.
The nucleus of the group is quite small and we are always on the look out for new, enthusiastic blood. Please use our contact information if you would like to know more of our exploits and join in the fun, in any capacity.
